Moore is the showrunner for Prime Video’s God of War series. His appointment was reported on October 22, 2024—not newly announced in 2026—and Amazon’s overview, updated September 8, 2026, still lists him as showrunner, executive producer, and writer.
Who is the God of War showrunner?
Ronald D. Moore, known for his work as a writer and producer, took over after Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus departed. TheWrap reported the creative-team change on October 22, 2024. Amazon’s later series overview confirms Moore continues in the role and credits him as an executive producer and writer as well.
What is the series about?
Amazon describes the story as following Kratos and his son Atreus on a journey to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother, in a world shaped by Norse gods. That premise places the adaptation in the Norse-era part of the franchise and foregrounds the father-son relationship; the official synopsis does not describe it as an adaptation of the entire series of games.
What is the series’ current status?
Amazon’s overview says the series has a two-season order and that production is underway. It does not give a premiere date, so production status alone does not establish when the show will be released.

For readers interested in the Norse-era story behind the adaptation, PlayStation’s official God of War Ragnarök page identifies the game for PS5 and PS4 and describes Kratos and Atreus’s Norse journey. The game was released on November 9, 2022, according to PlayStation. It is source material in the franchise, not a TV-series companion product.
