Both arrived in 2025. As of October 8, 2026, the main TV series has concluded; the later “More” special aired on May 2, 2026, but it was not announced as a ninth season.
What new My Hero Academia anime was announced?
The announcement was for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, an anime based on the manga spin-off—not a new season of the main story. The original December 2024 report also said the main anime’s eighth season would be its final one. Its 2025 release framing is now historical. The headline was reported by CBR on December 30, 2024, in an IMDb news listing; the direct CBR article was not independently verified. IMDb’s listing preserves the report’s context.
Is season 8 really the last season?
Yes. The official franchise site identifies the eighth season as the FINAL SEASON of the main TV anime. That means the “major update” in the old headline should not be read as a new season announcement. The official site’s later notices document anniversary activity and an additional special, not a ninth season. The official anime website lists the FINAL SEASON and subsequent franchise updates.
What was the “More” episode?
The official site records episode No. 170+1, titled “More,” as having aired on May 2, 2026. It adapted manga material included in the final, 42nd volume. The site also listed streaming after the broadcast and FINAL SEASON Blu-ray/DVD availability. Those notices establish the Japanese franchise release context; they do not confirm what is currently available in a particular country’s streaming catalog or which physical editions are sold in each region. Official anime-site news provides the dated notices.

What do the franchise figures say?
In an April 6, 2026 release, KLab Inc. said that 170 episodes across eight seasons had aired leading up to the 2025 FINAL SEASON, that four theatrical films had been released, and that the manga had surpassed 100 million copies in circulation worldwide. These are figures attributed to KLab’s 2026 statement, not a newly verified current sales count. KLab Inc.’s April 6, 2026 release gives the figures and their context.
Does the 2027 Ultra Expo mean another anime is coming?
No such conclusion follows from the event notice. An official update dated September 20, 2026, announces My Hero Academia Ultra Expo for April 17–18, 2027. The notice describes an event; it does not announce a new main-series TV season. The official site’s news page carries the announcement.

Where can viewers continue with the story?
Watch the main series and special
The official site lists streaming after “More” aired and home-video availability for the FINAL SEASON. Because catalogs and disc editions vary by region and can change, check local services and retailers for current access rather than assuming a Japanese listing applies worldwide.
