Netflix says it will arrive in early 2027, but has not announced a specific date. Its official description frames the story as an “absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious crime thriller.”
What is Blackmere about?
Netflix describes a “tormented” detective named John Blackmere who leaves the rain-soaked Northern city of Bleakford for London. He is seeking to avenge his partner’s death while trying to catch a ritualistic serial killer before the killer runs out of victims.
The announcement’s tonal contrast is central to the premise: Netflix calls the series an “absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious crime thriller.” Its full description ends with the darkly comic line, “Contains blood and frowning.” Netflix Tudum’s announcement does not describe the story as a documentary or as a true-crime account.
Why is it being compared with Slow Horses?
“Slow Horses-style” is a shorthand in the headline, not Netflix’s description of Blackmere. The announcement calls it a detective series and crime thriller, but does not say it adapts Slow Horses, shares its source material, or has a formal creative connection to that series. What Netflix does emphasize is a crime story with a comic streak.

What Charlie Brooker said about the announcement
Netflix Tudum also reproduced a quote Brooker gave for the 2025 announcement: “I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release,” he said. “I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”

Is this the same show as The Case or Detective Hole?
No. The Case and Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole are separate Netflix crime series, not alternate names for Blackmere.
