In August 2024, reports said YouTube creator Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, had hired attorney Alex Spiro after former employee Dawson French—who posted as DogPack404—published videos accusing Donaldson and his company of misconduct. The label “sociopath” was French’s characterization, not a clinical diagnosis. A company-commissioned investigation led by Spiro later reported isolated workplace misconduct while finding no basis for specified sexual-misconduct allegations; neither the online accusations nor that investigation’s conclusions were a court judgment.
Why did MrBeast hire Alex Spiro?
Gizmodo reported on August 29, 2024, that Donaldson had hired Spiro, a lawyer at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan. Gizmodo attributed the first report of the hire and its reported internal-audit purpose to the Daily Mail, and said Business Insider confirmed the hire through a Quinn Emanuel representative. The reported purpose was to review the company amid claims raised publicly by former employee Dawson French, who posted as DogPack404. Gizmodo’s August 29 report framed the hire as a response to those allegations.
French’s videos accused Donaldson and the company of misconduct and called Donaldson a “sociopath” and a “fraud.” Those were French’s claims, not established findings. “Sociopath” in this dispute was an online insult or characterization, not a clinical assessment.
What did the reported cease-and-desist letter say?
Gizmodo reported that Spiro sent French a cease-and-desist letter. As described in that report, the letter alleged that French made false and defamatory claims and breached a nondisclosure agreement. It also asserted that French had worked for the company for three weeks before being fired for conduct French had described as inappropriate.

These were assertions in a reported legal letter, not findings by a judge. The letter’s existence does not establish that French defamed Donaldson or the company, that an NDA was breached, or that a court ordered French to do anything.
What happened after the August 2024 report?
November 1, 2024: the company-commissioned investigation
The Associated Press reported on November 1, 2024, that an investigation led by Spiro had concluded after nearly three months. The AP said investigators interviewed 39 current and former employees and reviewed millions of documents and messages. The company reported firing between five and ten employees; it declined to provide a precise number. These figures summarize the company’s account of its investigation, as reported by the AP, not an independently verified tally.

In a letter to the company’s board, Spiro described “several isolated instances of workplace harassment and misconduct” and said there was no basis for the specified sexual-misconduct allegations. He also wrote: “It is not uncommon that policies and practices essential in a mature company would lag behind commercial success.” That was Spiro’s explanation in the letter, not an independent assessment or court finding. The AP’s November 1 account reported the investigation’s scope and conclusions. CBS News also reported the findings, providing corroborating coverage rather than a separate adjudication. CBS News’ account likewise described isolated workplace misconduct and the conclusion about specified sexual-misconduct allegations.

The distinctions matter: an accusation, a lawyer’s letter, and an internal investigation have different sources and legal weight. The later investigation did not turn the August allegations into adjudicated facts, and its conclusions do not bind a court.

Was French sued?
The available reporting cited here does not establish whether the dispute with French proceeded to a lawsuit. The August 2024 report describes a cease-and-desist letter, not a court case, and the November 2024 reports focus on the company-commissioned investigation. It would be inaccurate to treat the letter alone as proof that a lawsuit was filed.
