Mr. Crocket pairs the reassuring look of a children’s-show host with the menace of a supernatural killer. The Hulu Originals horror feature follows a mother trying to rescue her son after the host emerges from a television and abducts children. Its premise drew interest, but reviews differ on how well the feature delivers on it.
What is Mr. Crocket about?
The film centers on Mr. Crocket, a supernatural children’s-show host who comes out of television, kidnaps children, and kills their parents. A mother sets out to get her son back. That setup turns the familiar warmth of children’s television into a threat and gives the story a rescue mission alongside its horror.
Why compare Mr. Crocket to Mr. Rogers and Freddy Krueger?
The comparison describes two sides of the character, not an official connection to either figure. Mr. Rogers evokes the friendly children’s-presenter persona; Freddy Krueger signals a supernatural killer and the film’s violent horror logic. One review excerpt describes the host as reminiscent of a children’s presenter and his world as becoming cartoonish in a brutal way.
How did the feature originate?
Director Brandon Espy developed the feature from his 2022 short, which appeared in Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween. Espy co-wrote the feature with Carl Reid. Trade coverage identifies Jerrika Hinton and Elvis Nolasco in lead roles, with Ayden Gavin, Kristolyn Lloyd, and Alex Akpobome also among the cast.

Do reviews find that the premise works?
The available review excerpts offer different judgments rather than a single critical verdict. CBR calls the premise compelling but says the film struggles to fulfill its concept. JoBlo is more positive, describing the idea as frightening and saying the film fares better than expected. Bloody Disgusting praises the practical effects and puppetry while criticizing the script.
Together, those comments point to the key question for a prospective viewer: whether the eerie children’s-TV imagery and effects outweigh the screenplay’s shortcomings. The excerpts do not establish enough detail to make broader claims about the film’s pacing, performances, or overall critical reception.
Is Mr. Crocket scary?
Its premise is built around supernatural violence, child abduction, and a children’s entertainer turned killer, so it is clearly a horror film rather than a light family story. The available reviews describe the concept as frightening and the world as brutally cartoonish, but individual reactions to horror vary. The evidence here does not establish a rating or content advisory.
