The cameo is easy to overlook in a film centered on Danny Zuko, the character played by John Travolta. Paramount identifies Grease as a 1978 PG comedy, drama and musical with a 110-minute running time. Paramount’s film page.
Was it Ellen or Ann Travolta?
Ellen’s waitress appearance is in the movie. Ann Travolta, another of John’s sisters, is associated with a different Grease: the original Broadway musical. IBDB records Ann’s understudy credits for that stage production, not the 1978 film. IBDB’s Ann Travolta record.

Why is the appearance easy to miss?
The available reporting characterizes Ellen’s part as brief, and the cast credit identifies only a waitress role. That makes it a modest family connection in the film’s supporting cast—not a hidden starring performance. The Spokesman-Review profiled Ellen Travolta on April 6, 2018, and notes the small role. No reviewed source measures how many viewers know about Ellen’s appearance, so “most fans missed it” works as a headline hook, not a quantified claim.
