What powers does Monica have in the MCU?
A later official MCU character description says Monica can manipulate wavelengths on the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing her to see and manipulate light energy. D23 published that description in its The Marvels character guide on November 3, 2023. It is useful framing for Monica’s abilities, but it is not an episode-by-episode explanation of every moment in WandaVision.

In the series, Monica’s power emergence is associated with her repeated encounters with the Westview Hex. Marvel’s WandaVision page establishes the show and its episode guides, but does not detail the mechanics of her transformation. The evidence supports describing the Hex as the story context—not claiming a more specific biological or molecular mechanism.

The comparison is useful precisely because the origins are not the same. The MCU places Monica’s power emergence in the Westview story; the comics summary traces her powers to alien energy. Neither account should be substituted for the other.

What Captain Marvel means in Monica’s comics history
Monica is one of the characters who has used the Captain Marvel identity; Carol Danvers is not the only Captain Marvel. Marvel’s Monica Rambeau reading list says Monica first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16, was empowered by alien energy, and became the new Captain Marvel. In a 2023 interview, Marvel also described her as a former Captain Marvel and an Avengers leader.
That same interview discusses Monica Rambeau: Photon, her 2022 solo series. Writer Eve L. Ewing said Monica was “such an incredibly powerful character but was often relegated to the sidelines or didn’t always have storylines that were commensurate with her power set.” That is Ewing’s perspective on the character’s place in comics, rather than a quantified measure of her appearances or prominence. The interview was published on February 8, 2023, when its first two issues were available.

Where to start with the comics
Monica Rambeau: Photon (2022) is a relevant starting point for readers interested in Monica as a lead character. Marvel’s interview about the series provides context for its creation and her history: “Finding Photon: The Cosmic Journey of Monica Rambeau”. The powers details established by the cited comic-history summary are narrower than a complete inventory of Monica’s comic abilities, so they do not support treating the MCU wavelength-and-light description as a definitive account of every comics feat.
