Yes. Mob Girl is based on the life of Arlyne Brickman, born Arlyne Weiss, whose experiences in New York’s underworld and later cooperation with the government are the subject of Teresa Carpenter’s nonfiction book Mob Girl: A Woman’s Life in the Underworld.
Who was Arlyne Brickman?
Brickman grew up on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in a family connected to racketeers, according to the publisher’s description of Carpenter’s book. She later associated with mobsters and became involved in their criminal world; she was not simply an outside observer or a mobster’s girlfriend.

After years in that world, Brickman became an informant and witness for the government in a case against members of the Colombo crime family. Simon & Schuster describes her as a major witness in the government’s case. A 1992 Los Angeles Times review by Leah Rozen also recounts her testimony at a 1986 racketeering trial.
What is the true story behind Mob Girl?
The book follows Brickman’s movement from a Lower East Side upbringing into the company and criminal milieu of mobsters, and then to her role as a government witness. Its central real-life arc is that she became involved in the world she later helped the government investigate.
#1 Best Overall
Rozen’s 1992 review quotes Brickman recalling, “I was a housewife.” That is Brickman’s statement as reproduced in the review, not an independently checked court transcript. Rozen also quotes Carpenter’s description: “That was how it was hanging out with wiseguys.” These recollections offer a glimpse of the book’s approach, but they do not independently establish every scene or detail.
Is Mob Girl a book or a film?
The established work is Carpenter’s nonfiction book. A screen adaptation has also been proposed, but a current release date or production status is not established by authoritative sources. Treat casting or film-related descriptions as adaptation information, not proof of the historical record or confirmation that a film has been completed.
