No: the film once announced as Minions 3 for June 2027 is now titled Minions & Monsters, and it was released in 2026. Universal’s home-entertainment announcement dates digital access to August 11, 2026, and 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD to September 8, 2026.
Is Minions 3 still coming out in 2027?
No. Comcast’s July 11, 2024 announcement used the working title Minions 3 and set a June 2027 theatrical date. The studio’s current title is Minions & Monsters, which Illumination lists as a 2026 film. Universal Products & Experiences later announced a July 1, 2026 theatrical date, superseding the original schedule. Comcast’s original announcement and Illumination’s film page reflect the change in title and timing.
What is Minions & Monsters about?
Illumination’s official synopsis begins in 1920s Hollywood, where a new tribe of Minions arrives. James and Henry become movie stars after appearing on camera, but their popularity fades as sound films take over. They leave their tribe to make a monster movie, summon creatures that run amok, and must work together with the other Minions to save the world. This is the studio’s stated premise, rather than a scene-by-scene account of the film.
Who made the film?
The finished-film credits in Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s August 4, 2026 release announcement list Pierre Coffin as director and Patrick Delage as co-director. Brian Lynch and Pierre Coffin wrote the screenplay. Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan produced, with Brian Lynch and Chris Renaud as executive producers. These final credits add detail to the initial 2024 announcement, which named Coffin as director and Lynch as writer.
