KSTP reported that Vance Boelter’s wife, Jennifer (Jenny) Boelter, was detained for questioning after a vehicle carrying her and relatives was stopped near Onamia, Minnesota, on June 14, 2025. The reporting does not establish that she was arrested, and the Associated Press later reported that she had not been charged.
What happened during the Onamia traffic stop?
On June 14, 2025, as authorities searched for Boelter following the shootings of Minnesota lawmakers, officers stopped a vehicle near Onamia that was carrying his wife and other relatives. The Mille Lacs County sheriff confirmed that she was in the vehicle, according to MPR News and FOX 9.
KSTP reported, citing multiple law-enforcement sources, that she was detained for questioning. FOX 9’s report that day said it was unclear whether anyone in the vehicle had been detained or arrested. Those reports differ in what they could confirm at the time; neither establishes that she was formally arrested.
Was she arrested or charged?
The available reporting supports saying she was reportedly detained for questioning, not that she was arrested. On June 24, 2025, the Associated Press, citing details in an FBI affidavit, reported that she consented to a search of the vehicle and had not been charged. That later account describes the stop and search but does not report an arrest or criminal charge against her.

What happened in Vance Boelter’s case afterward?
The June 2025 stop is distinct from the later federal and state proceedings against Boelter. The U.S. Department of Justice announced that he pleaded guilty to six federal offenses on June 11, 2026, and was sentenced on July 23, 2026, to two consecutive life sentences plus 40 years. Hennepin County said its state prosecution would proceed after federal sentencing.
As of October 7, 2026, FOX 9 reported that a judge had vacated a temporary gag order in the state case. State-court scheduling and rulings may change as that case proceeds.
