Cat Janice, the D.C.-area alt-pop singer born Catherine Janice Ipsan, died at 31 on February 28, 2024, while receiving hospice care after being diagnosed with sarcoma. Her final song, “Dance You Outta My Head,” was dedicated to her son, Loren, and she directed its proceeds to support him.

Janice was an alt-pop musician from the Washington, D.C., area. The Washington Post reported that she died in her childhood home in Annandale, Virginia, surrounded by family. Her brother, Will Ipsan, described her as fearless: “It just really is a testament to her fearlessness.”

News reports described Janice’s illness as sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. She was in hospice care when she died. The reports do not identify a sarcoma subtype.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Janice transferred her music rights to Loren. That report does not establish the precise legal scope or guarantee how every royalty, recording, or future use is handled. Her brother told The Washington Post: “She was able to pass in peace knowing that the song, and her music as a whole, would continue to provide for her son.”
How successful was “Dance You Outta My Head”?
In February 2024, The Guardian reported that the song reached No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 and placed in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Those are historical chart milestones reported at the time, not current chart positions.
