MrBeast has warned that AI-generated videos could threaten the livelihoods of people who make content for a living. Instagram head Adam Mosseri’s response was more optimistic: he argued that AI could lower production barriers and let more people create. But he did not say there were no risks. In remarks reported from Bloomberg Screentime, he also raised concerns about misuse and viewers mistaking a video for proof that an event happened.

What MrBeast reportedly warned about

TechCrunch reported on October 10, 2025, that Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, had warned on Threads that AI-generated videos could soon threaten the livelihoods of creators who currently make content for a living. The report says he called the moment “scary times.” It does not reproduce his full post, so that characterization should be understood as TechCrunch’s account, not a complete quotation of MrBeast’s argument. TechCrunch’s report

The concern is about economics, not simply whether AI tools are good or bad. If synthetic video makes it easier to produce content, creators may face more competition or see some work displaced. The report provides no employment or earnings data, however, and does not establish how AI will affect creator income.

Why Adam Mosseri thinks AI could help creators

Mosseri’s counterargument, as reported by TechCrunch, is that AI could make production less expensive and accessible to more people. He did not suggest that a tool would automatically reproduce MrBeast’s elaborate sets or productions. Rather, he argued that more people could make more and better content when the cost of producing it falls. That is a prediction about access and production costs, not proof that creator livelihoods are safe.

He compared that possible shift with the internet’s effect on distribution: online platforms made it possible for almost anyone to publish by sharply lowering the cost of reaching an audience. In his analogy, generative AI could similarly reduce the cost of making content. His phrase “basically zero” was a qualitative forecast, not a measured price or finding that video production is literally free. TechCrunch’s account of Mosseri’s remarks

AI video is not just a choice between human-made and synthetic

The exchange can sound like a choice between traditional creator work and videos generated entirely by AI. Mosseri described a more gradual shift. TechCrunch reported that creators already use AI for tasks such as color correction and filters, and that he expected more content to combine human work with AI assistance. He said this middle ground would be more common than fully synthetic content “for a while.” TechCrunch’s report

That distinction matters when considering the threat to creators. A tool that assists a person’s workflow is different from a system that produces most of a video, even if both involve AI. The report describes the continuum but does not measure how much work creators will hand over to AI or what that will mean for jobs and earnings.

Mosseri acknowledged the risks to trust

Mosseri also warned about bad actors using AI for nefarious purposes and about viewers treating a video as evidence that an event really happened. In comments reported from the interview, he said children should learn that “just because they’re seeing a video of something doesn’t mean it actually happened.” TechCrunch reported that he was speaking as a parent of children who were nine, seven, and five at the time; those ages are not broader research findings. His position, then, was not that AI video is harmless. He said Meta had a responsibility to improve identification and provide context, while acknowledging that an earlier automatic labeling effort was flawed because some real content was labeled as AI-generated. These are comments reported in October 2025, not a statement of Instagram’s current labeling rules or policy.

What the exchange does—and does not—settle

  • It identifies a real tension: cheaper production could bring more people into video creation, while also increasing competition for established creators.
  • It describes a range of AI use: assistance with tasks such as color correction and filters sits between fully human-led production and fully synthetic video.
  • It raises a trust problem: viewers need context to judge who made a video and whether it depicts a real event.
  • It does not predict creator incomes with evidence: neither the reported warning nor Mosseri’s response is backed here by figures on employment, earnings, or production costs.

The disagreement is therefore less a settled forecast than a difference in emphasis. MrBeast’s reported warning centers on who may lose out as video becomes easier to generate. Mosseri focuses on who may gain the ability to make it. The reporting supports both as concerns worth taking seriously, but it does not show which outcome will dominate.
