Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s Season 2 episode “The Gatekeeper” was reportedly pulled from release, but the reason remains disputed. A storyboard artist’s since-deleted post linked the alleged shelving to the 2024 U.S. election and the episode’s trans sports storyline; Gizmodo later reported that an unnamed Disney source said the decision had been made more than a year earlier for reasons unrelated to current politics.
What happened to “The Gatekeeper”?
On November 15, 2024, Gizmodo’s James Whitbrook reported that crew social-media comments alleged that a remaining episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur had been shelved after the U.S. election. The episode was identified as “The Gatekeeper,” a Season 2 installment. Gizmodo said it could not independently verify the social-media posts. Gizmodo’s report
Storyboard artist Derrick Malik Johnson was quoted from a since-deleted post on Bluesky: “One of the projects (episode) I worked on is getting shelved because of which party that won the recent election.” That statement records Johnson’s allegation; it does not independently establish either the production decision or its motive.
What did Disney say about the decision?
Gizmodo reported that a Disney source familiar with the matter confirmed the episode had been pulled from release, but disputed the election-related timing and rationale. The unnamed source said the decision had been made more than a year earlier and was part of a regular review process for children’s content, not a response to current political concerns. Because the source was not named, this is an account attributed by Gizmodo, not a statement from an identified Disney spokesperson.

| Election-related shelving | Storyboard artist Derrick Malik Johnson, in a since-deleted post quoted by Gizmodo on November 15, 2024 | An allegation about the reason; Gizmodo said it could not independently verify the social-media posts. |

What was the reported trans storyline?
Gizmodo described footage it had seen, rather than citing an official Disney synopsis. In that footage, Brooklyn, a trans volleyball player, is challenged by an opposing coach over eligibility and Pride-themed items; the plot then moves into a magical-key escape-room scenario. The available reporting therefore connects the alleged shelving controversy to that storyline, but does not establish that the storyline caused the decision.
Do Disney’s 2025 schedules show what happened next?
Disney’s February 2025 schedule listed Season 2 episodes 16–21: “Moon Girl, Grounded,” “Ride Along,” “Lava Actually,” “Full Moon,” “To Intervention and Beyond-er,” and “Crushed.” Disney’s February schedule
Its March 2025 schedule listed episodes 22–25: “A Devil-ish Birthday,” “Party Girl,” “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” and “Shoot for the Moon.” Disney’s March schedule
Those schedules document the episodes announced for those dates, but their omission of “The Gatekeeper” does not by itself establish whether it was ultimately canceled, released later, or remains unreleased. The official 2025 schedule pages reviewed do not resolve its final status.

Can viewers watch the episode, or find it in the comics?
The available information does not establish an official release of “The Gatekeeper,” so it would be misleading to imply that it is available to stream. Disney’s fact sheets identify the animated series as based on Marvel comic books, but that connection does not mean the comics contain this unreleased episode. Disney’s series fact sheets
