What were the two Minecraft game drops?
The drops were updates to Minecraft, not separate games. They focused on different parts of play: Spring to Life added environmental detail and mob variety, while Chase the Skies introduced a new flying mount and multiplayer navigation features.

Mojang’s current update timeline labels the drops April and July 2025, respectively. The dates above are the exact playable dates given in the individual launch posts.
What did Spring to Life add?
Spring to Life brought changes to the Overworld rather than a new mode or standalone game. It added warm and cold variants of pigs, cows, and chickens, and changed where sheep spawn. It also introduced new wolf sounds and ambient desert audio.

Environmental additions include falling leaves, leaf litter, wildflowers, dry grass, cactus flowers, firefly bushes, and bushes. Other changes included a revised lodestone recipe, cartographer maps, wandering-trader adjustments, and more recognizable Creative Mode spawn egg textures. Mojang describes the update in its Spring to Life launch post.
What did Chase the Skies add?
Chase the Skies added a ghast progression: players can take a dried ghast through a ghastling stage until it grows into a happy ghast. A grown happy ghast can wear a dyeable harness and carry players through the air, including in shared flight.

The drop also introduced the Player Locator Bar, which helps players find other players. Mojang’s launch post dates its release to June 17, 2025, on both Java and Bedrock editions.
How is Vibrant Visuals different from the drops?
Vibrant Visuals is a graphics upgrade, not a third gameplay drop: it changes how Minecraft is rendered without changing gameplay mechanics. Its effects include directional lighting and volumetric fog. Mojang’s Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergensten described it as “a new look that still stays true to our creative principles” in the official announcement.

It launched in June 2025 for compatible Bedrock Edition devices. Mojang lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC, with minimum hardware or API requirements applying on some platforms. The official launch notice warns that performance may degrade on some devices and that local split-screen is unsupported in this rendering mode. At launch, add-ons, skins, and persona items worked with Vibrant Visuals, while worlds and texture packs were not compatible. Mojang’s timeline says Java Edition support is still in development.
What movie details and event tie-ins were announced?
Minecraft LIVE included an exclusive clip from A Minecraft Movie and announced an in-game live event with mini-game challenges and a cape reward, as reported in the Minecraft LIVE recap and contemporaneous VentureBeat coverage.

A separate Mojang post on February 27, 2025, announced a new trailer and ticket sales. It also described a US opening-weekend ticket promotion through Fandango that included a Bedrock jetpack add-on. Mojang’s March 5, 2025, event notice set Minecraft LIVE for March 22. The broadcast presented the two drops and movie material; the updates became playable later, on the dates in their respective launch posts.
