The “naked dress” Mia Goth wears in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a sheer teal nightgown designed for Elizabeth’s entrance—not a red-carpet look. The more than 40 carats of diamonds belong to a separate piece: Tiffany & Co.’s historic Wade Necklace, worn with the costume.
What Mia Goth wears in the staircase scene
Costume designer Kate Hawley identifies the garment as Elizabeth’s sheer nightgown. In the scene, Elizabeth leaves her room to seek out the Creature. The teal gown is embellished with ruching; Hawley says director Guillermo del Toro wanted the character to appear almost as close to naked as possible while remaining luminous. The “naked dressing” description refers to this film costume, not an identified public appearance.
Hawley describes the look as a nod to the Victorian “’60s” and says it takes on a “’60s horror femme fatale” quality as Elizabeth descends the staircase. She also cites Tiffany’s archives, Louis Comfort Tiffany glass, Biba, and the 1960s horror influence associated with Victor as visual references. These are inspirations for the film’s design, not claims that the gown reproduces a particular historical garment. Marie Claire’s interview with Hawley discusses the costume and its references.
Where the 40-plus carats of diamonds come in
The diamond figure refers to the Wade Necklace, not the nightgown. Netflix describes the necklace as made of platinum and 18-karat gold and set with more than 40 carats of diamonds; Mia Goth wears it as Elisabeth. Netflix’s account of the film’s Tiffany jewelry identifies the piece and its materials.

Tiffany & Co. describes the Wade Necklace as a garland-style American jewelry masterpiece designed by Paulding Farnham and crafted around 1900. Its account also identifies Goth as wearing it as Elizabeth Lavenza. The necklace is an archival jewel incorporated into the film, not a current retail product. Tiffany’s film-jewelry feature gives the company’s description and attribution.

What Tiffany contributed to Frankenstein
Tiffany & Co.’s September 4, 2025 announcement says its on-screen collection for the film comprises 27 jewels and objects: 10 historic jewels, six archival silver objects, six contemporary creations, and five original jewels designed for the production. Tiffany says nearly every jewel is worn by Goth. These are the company’s counts for its film collaboration, not a count of pieces worn in the staircase scene alone.

The announcement describes a collaboration involving Hawley’s costume design, bespoke organic-form textile designs, curated jewels, and custom-made creations designed by Hawley and crafted by Tiffany. The film’s look therefore brings together distinct work: Hawley’s costume design and Tiffany’s historic and production-specific objects. Tiffany’s September 2025 announcement lists the collection and describes the collaboration.
