Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old beauty influencer and model, was killed on May 13, 2025, while livestreaming from her beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, near Guadalajara. As of reports published in August 2026, the investigation remained open: a judge had ordered one suspect held in pretrial detention, and authorities had publicly described allegations about other people’s possible roles. No final judgment establishing guilt or motive is reported here.
What happened at the salon?
Márquez was inside her salon during a TikTok livestream when she was shot. The Associated Press reported on May 15, 2025, that she appeared to be speaking to someone off camera whom she understood to be a delivery man. Jalisco authorities confirmed the killing, and prosecutors initially investigated it as a possible femicide.
AP also relayed words Márquez reportedly said shortly before the shooting: “Maybe they were going to kill me,” and “Were they going to come and take me away, or what? I’m worried.” Those are statements AP attributed to the livestream; they are not presented here as an independently reviewed recording.
What did investigators say about the suspected delivery pretext?
In an AP report published the same day, Jalisco prosecutor’s spokesperson Denis Rodríguez described an account from a woman at the salon: a masked man had earlier presented himself as a delivery driver, and he and a companion said they had an expensive gift to deliver. Rodríguez said that on a later visit the attacker asked whether Márquez was at the salon.

Rodríguez cautioned against treating the suspected paid-assassin theory as settled fact. “The aggressor arrived asking if the victim (Márquez) was there. So it appears he didn’t know her,” he told AP. He added: “With that, you can deduce — without jumping to conclusions — that this was a person who was paid. It was obviously someone who came with a purpose.” These were investigative deductions, not a court finding about who ordered the killing or why.
What did authorities report in 2026?
Federal authorities’ alleged investigative line
In a July 31, 2026, Mexican government transcript of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s press conference, Security and Citizen Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch said an investigative line connected the case to Francisco “N,” described as the son of Ramón Ángel “N” and Márquez’s former partner. The official account alleged that the son asked his father to order the killing. This is an allegation under investigation, not proof of guilt or a final determination of motive.

A suspect ordered held before trial
La Jornada reported on August 5, 2026, that a control judge bound Iván Martín “N” over for trial as a suspected material co-perpetrator and ordered one year of pretrial detention. The report said the court allowed three months for the complementary investigation. Being bound over and held before trial is a procedural step, not a conviction.
The available reports identify Iván Martín “N” and Ramón Ángel “N” separately; they do not establish that either is the same person as Francisco “N.” Infobae reported on August 7, 2026, that the state prosecutor said the arrests of Ramón Ángel “N” and Iván Martín “N” were separate operations.

Was the case resolved?
No resolution is established in the reports available through August 2026. Infobae reported that Jalisco prosecutor Salvador González de los Santos said the investigation remained open and authorities believed at least two or three people beyond the first detainee may have participated. He also reported that two women close to Márquez remained witnesses in the case at that time; the report does not establish them as suspects.
According to Infobae’s account of the prosecutor’s remarks, investigators had reviewed more than 500 hours of public- and private-camera video, and the file comprised nine volumes and more than 350 pages. These are figures attributed to the state prosecutor, not independently verified counts.

Why “video surfaces online” can be misleading
The killing occurred during a livestream, and news accounts and investigators referred to its recording. That does not make graphic copies necessary to understand the case. The relevant reporting establishes the identity of the victim, the circumstances reported at the salon, and the evolving investigative and court proceedings; it does not establish a final judgment or definitive motive.
