The intimate setting was the point: the performance marked the launch of SiriusXM’s Maximum Metallica channel, and singer James Hetfield said it reminded the band of its club-show days.
A one-night show in Amagansett
The Thursday-night performance took place in a large tent behind the Stephen Talkhouse, a venue in Amagansett. It was tied to the launch of SiriusXM’s Maximum Metallica channel, described at the time as a 24-hour channel set to premiere on August 29, 2025. That is the event’s launch context, not confirmation of the channel’s current availability.

Rolling Stone characterized the setup as a 500-capacity makeshift stage and called it Metallica’s smallest show in nearly a decade, comparing its scale with the band’s 2016 performances and its show in Antarctica. Revolver described it as an intimate 250-capacity performance. The reports do not reconcile those capacity figures, and neither establishes how many people attended. Rolling Stone; Revolver.
The distinction matters: “smallest show” describes the temporary venue’s scale in the coverage, not a verified attendance total or a precise ranking against every Metallica concert over the preceding decade.

Hetfield connected the tent to Metallica’s club days
Before “Fuel,” Hetfield told the crowd, “This reminds us of the club days.” He followed with, “Getting hot and sweaty and up close and personal.” Before “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” he said, “We’re gonna get loud tonight. The neighbors are gonna know who’s here.” These remarks are reproduced in Rolling Stone’s review; they are attributed to that account rather than presented as a transcript verified independently. The 14-entry setlist
Rolling Stone reported an approximately 95-minute performance with 14 set entries, counting Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo’s “doodle” of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.” “Seek & Destroy,” the title’s allusion, came eleventh; the band then closed with four songs in succession.

Metallica’s tent setup made a striking contrast with the arena and stadium settings familiar from the band’s large-scale performances. The available reports support that qualitative comparison, but not a like-for-like venue-capacity or attendance comparison. They also do not establish ticket prices or an official recording released from the concert.
