He started his YouTube journey in 2015, drawing on a career as a Boeing 737 pilot and instructor to explain aviation to students, nervous flyers, pilots and enthusiasts. The project later grew into a broader media brand, including a website, apps and immersive 360-degree cockpit videos.
From northern Sweden to the flight deck
In his first-person biography, Hörnfeldt traces his interest in aviation to his teens. He says he grew up near Örnsköldsvik in northern Sweden and became fascinated by flying at 14, after a flight with his father and a lesson in a Cessna 172.
According to his account, he entered a Swedish government-sponsored aviation program in 1998, at age 17. He says it offered 30 places nationally per year at the time—not a current admissions figure. He completed commercial pilot and instrument qualifications, along with frozen ATPL theory, then performed military service as an airport firefighter and worked on the ramp.
Hörnfeldt says he began Boeing 737-800 type training in 2002 and became a captain at 25. He later worked as a line training captain, type-rating instructor and type-rating examiner. These career details come chiefly from his own biography; JetStreamMedia, the parent company of the Mentour Pilot Group, also describes him as a Swedish training captain, type-rating instructor and examiner on the Boeing 737-800.
Why he started making aviation videos
Hörnfeldt says he began his social-media journey in 2015 because he was disappointed by the aviation content he encountered online. His aim, as he describes it, was to make material that was “good, unbiased, positive and constructive.” That is his account of his motivation, not a finding about aviation media as a whole.

He intended the material for a broad audience: people studying to become pilots, nervous flyers, working pilots and aviation enthusiasts. The premise was to draw on professional experience while making aviation understandable beyond the cockpit. As he put it in his biography: “You never really understand an aircraft or the procedures you fly until you have to teach it to others!”
His description of flying also emphasizes teamwork and procedure, rather than only the spectacle of being airborne. In a June 2023 profile by GE Aerospace News, he called the coordination between two trained pilots following standard operating procedures “a kind of dance,” adding, “When that happens, it’s just beautiful.”

How Mentour Pilot expanded beyond YouTube
JetStreamMedia describes Mentour Pilot as a brand that grew to include a website and a specialized phone app. Mentour 360 adds an immersive format: cockpit scenarios presented in 360-degree video, where viewers can look around on a smartphone or use a VR headset for a more immersive view. Its site also describes immersive video and app services for companies.
Mentour 360 is not a flight-training tool. Its page says the exercises are not based on any specific airline’s standard operating procedures and are “intended as entertainment only” and “not to be used for aircraft training of any sort.” That distinction matters: seeing a cockpit scenario is not a substitute for approved instruction, airline procedures or hands-on training.

- UNPARALLELED COMFORT: The Bose A30 is a full-sized circumaural aviation headset with a lightweight design and 20% lower clamping force than the A20 along with soft, comfortable ear seals.
- PRECISION-FOCUSED NOISE CANCELLING MICROPHONE: The Bose A30’s microphone is engineered for aircraft with “hot mic” or PTT systems to increase clarity and reduce background noise during transmission.
- FAA TSO and EASA E/TSO-C139a CERTIFIED: The Bose A30’s robust design has passed 145 tests by the Bose engineering and quality assurance team to ensure endurance in challenging flight environments.
- THREE SELECTABLE MODES OF ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION: Industry-leading active noise reduction with adjustable modes accommodates different use cases or pilot personal preference.
- ACTIVE EQUALIZATION: Incoming signals are shaped and equalized for unmatched audio clarity and intelligibility to this headset with mic.
The brand’s app offerings have changed over time. In a November 2019 post, Mentour Pilot described free app downloads with paid video collections, a $5-per-month premium membership, a news function and live streams. Those are historical details from that post, not a reliable guide to current pricing, features or availability.
What the published numbers do—and do not—show
Hörnfeldt’s undated biography reports that he has more than 10,000 Boeing 737 hours. This is a self-reported figure on that page, not an independently verified or current flight-hour total.

- Super Soft, Double Foam Head Pad
- New Comfort gel, undercut ear seals
- Universal Flex Boom for perfect microphone placement
- Exclusive M-7A, the most advanced noise-cancelling microphone available
- Low-profile volume control knob with detent settings
GE Aerospace News described Mentour Pilot as having more than 1.5 million aviation enthusiasts in a June 15, 2023 profile. That is a dated audience snapshot, not a present-day channel count. The same article said “Revolutionizing Flight!” had received three million views since January and was then Mentour Now!’s most popular video; it does not specify the year meant by “January.”
A November 2019 Airline Pilot Club newsletter attributed 60 years of combined professional pilot-training experience to a project involving Hörnfeldt and Andy O’Shea. That figure is the club’s promotional description, not an independently audited statistic.

The practical questions behind pilot-training content
Mentour Pilot’s intended audience includes people weighing whether to pursue aviation as a career, not only viewers curious about aircraft. An Airline Pilot Club newsletter from November 2019 framed the questions facing aspiring pilots this way:
- “Are you really suited to be a professional Airline Pilot?”
- “How will you fund your training?”
- “How will you choose the best flying school?”
- “After qualification, how can you get an airline job?”
Those are the club’s own formulations, not the results of a general audience survey. They illustrate how aviation media can serve as an introduction to the decisions around training and careers, while leaving individual suitability, school selection, funding and hiring to be assessed through current, qualified advice.
A pilot becomes an explainer
Hörnfeldt’s story is a transition from practitioner to explainer and community builder. His aviation career supplied the professional perspective; his stated goal of making aviation content more constructive shaped the channel’s purpose; and the later website, apps and 360-degree experiences broadened the ways audiences could engage with the subject. The clearest boundary in that expansion is also an important one: immersive cockpit media can help viewers explore aviation, but Mentour 360 explicitly says it is for entertainment, not aircraft training.
