Megan Thee Stallion posted videos from inside the May 5, 2025 Met Gala, despite saying in one clip, “We’re not supposed to have our phones.” The videos fueled talk that she might be banned from the event—but Megan later denied that rumor. Her account of why her phone was out was her own explanation, not independent confirmation of organizer approval.
What Megan posted from inside the 2025 Met Gala
Megan shared a food-review vlog from the event on Instagram and TikTok, featuring fellow invitees Doechii and Angel Reese sampling dishes. Other short clips showed the trio and attendees in selfie-style videos. Teen Vogue and Glamour reported on the footage.

In one video, Megan acknowledged the restriction in plain terms: “We’re not supposed to have our phones.” That remark helped turn the clips into a discussion about the event’s reported expectations around phones, filming and social-media posts.
Was Megan Thee Stallion banned from the Met Gala?
No. Megan rejected the ban rumor in a follow-up interview with People, as quoted by Teen Vogue. “We’re gonna dead these rumors right now, OK? People are like, ‘Oh my God, Megan, you got banned from the Met Gala. No, I didn’t, babe. Like that’s not true,’” she said. “Y’all made that up and ran with it. They love making [stuff up]. Anna [Wintour] loves me, babe. That’s why my phone was out.”

Her comments establish that she denied being banned and offered a teasing explanation for having her phone. They do not independently verify that Anna Wintour or event organizers formally authorized her to use it; the reviewed coverage does not include a statement from them or a published organizer policy.
What is known about the Met Gala’s phone rule?
Contemporaneous coverage described a no-phone or no-filming expectation, including restrictions on social posting. The reporting available here does not include a primary Met or Vogue policy document, so the rule is best described as reported rather than as a fully documented formal policy. Nor does it establish a specific enforcement procedure, such as confiscating or sealing guests’ phones.

The gala took place in Manhattan on May 5, 2025. Its theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was tied to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring exhibition. The Associated Press reported that the event focused exclusively on Black designers and was the first in more than 20 years to have a menswear theme. The AP estimated the guest list at about 450 people; that figure describes the event, not phone-rule enforcement.

Guest phone footage and commissioned photography are not the same thing. In a May 10, 2025 Vogue account, a photographer described making images inside the gala. That provides context for authorized interior photography, but does not establish the policy for guests’ phones or explain Megan’s permission.
