Megan Thee Stallion wore a custom Michael Kors look to the 2025 Met Gala: a silver fitted dress with floral lace details and a high slit, topped with a maxi faux-fur coat. Her sculptural red ponytail, accented with jewels, drew inspiration from Josephine Baker. The gala’s “Tailored for You” dress code invited guests to engage with the Costume Institute exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
What Megan Thee Stallion wore
Michael Kors designed Megan’s custom look for the May 5, 2025, gala. The Associated Press described floral lace embellishment and a high side slit; Teen Vogue described a skin-tight silver dress and a maxi faux-fur coat. Together, the pieces balanced a close-fitting evening silhouette with a dramatic outer layer.
The Associated Press’s coverage of the gala and Teen Vogue’s account of Megan’s look and the later rumor describe those details.
Why her red ponytail stood out
Megan’s sculptural red ponytail referenced Josephine Baker. Vogue reported the inspiration and diamond accents; Vogue India described a jeweled center part, brushed-back base, three rounded buns, and glossy waves. The hairstyle made its own historical reference rather than serving only as a finishing touch to the dress.

How the look connected to “Tailored for You”
The 2025 dress code, “Tailored for You,” was tied to the Costume Institute exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which explored Black dandyism. The exhibition drew on Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, according to Vogue’s coverage of Black talent at the gala.

Megan’s fitted silver gown was not a literal menswear suit. Read against the dress code, its tailored fit, dramatic coat, and Baker-inspired hair offer a glamorous interpretation of the theme rather than a direct reproduction of menswear. The Associated Press captured one broader pattern in the evening: “The menswear vibe for women was frequent and expected, ‘women wanting to maintain a traditionally feminine dress silhouette while still respecting the theme,’ said William Dingle, director of style for blackmenswear.com.” That observation refers to women’s styling across the gala, not specifically to Megan’s outfit.

No confirmed ban is established in the cited coverage. After a food-review video from inside the event prompted speculation, Megan denied the claim, telling Teen Vogue: “We’re gonna dead these rumors right now, OK? People are like, ‘Oh my God, Megan, you got banned from the Met Gala. No, I didn’t, babe. Like that’s not true,” and later: “Anna [Wintour] loves me, babe. That’s why my phone was out.” The ban story should be treated as a rumor she denied, not as a confirmed consequence.
