Meryl Streep appeared in the “Close Encounter” alien-abduction sketch during SNL50: The Anniversary Special, playing the mother of Kate McKinnon’s recurring character. TheWrap reported that Pedro Pascal cracked up during the scene, but the available reporting does not establish the exact moment Streep herself broke character.
Which sketch did Meryl Streep appear in?
Streep joined the returning “Close Encounter” sketch, built around McKinnon’s character recounting an alien abduction. Streep played her mother. TheWrap also names Pedro Pascal, Jon Hamm, Woody Harrelson and Aidy Bryant among the sketch’s performers. TheWrap’s report describes Pascal cracking up during the scene; it does not provide a verified timestamp for a break by Streep. The Los Angeles Times identifies this as Streep’s first SNL appearance. What is established about Streep breaking character?
The headline describes Streep breaking character, but the available reporting supports a more limited account: Pascal cracked up during the sketch, and no exact moment when Streep herself laughed is established. Without a timestamped account or verified clip detail, it would be misleading to pinpoint when—or assert precisely how—Streep broke.
