Swifties for Kamala was a volunteer coalition formed by Taylor Swift fans after Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Kamala Harris. It combined the language and traditions of Swift fandom with familiar campaign work: voter registration, phone calls, texts, direct mail and in-person events. The coalition was not affiliated with Taylor Swift; Swift’s later endorsement of the Harris-Walz ticket was a separate event.
How Swifties for Kamala began
Swifties for Kamala founder Emerald Medrano organized the group in the hours after Biden withdrew from the 2024 race. The Washington Post traced its start to Medrano’s post on X inviting U.S. Swifties to organize for Harris. The group was initially called Swifties for Harris. The Washington Post’s contemporaneous account describes the online call and the campaign’s early momentum.
The coalition described its mission as protecting U.S. democracy and electing progressive candidates in local and national races. Its stated priorities included equality, LGBTQIA+ rights, reproductive freedom, a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, welcoming immigrants, climate action and commonsense gun laws. These were the group’s positions, not a platform issued by Swift.
What the coalition did for Harris
Turned an online rally into volunteer work
Organizers held a kickoff call on August 27, 2024. More than 34,000 people attended, according to organizers cited by The Washington Post, which also reported that the event raised more than $122,000. The call featured singer Carole King and elected officials including Elizabeth Warren, and organizers outlined ways to help, including door-knocking, phone calls and voter registration. Georgia Public Broadcasting later reported that the total had grown to nearly $150,000 by Wednesday. The figures describe different points in the fundraiser, not competing estimates of a single final amount. The Washington Post and Georgia Public Broadcasting reported the event and its fundraising.

Contacted voters through multiple channels
In its 2024-cycle retrospective, Swifties for Kamala said it made more than 22 million direct voter contacts in under 107 days, including 19.1 million texts and 2.7 million calls across more than 8,000 shifts. The coalition said it partnered with 13 organizations and reached more than 259,000 Pennsylvania voters through a targeted mail program. These are figures reported by the organization, not independently audited counts. The coalition’s impact account describes its reported totals.
Encouraged registration and relational organizing
The coalition said its Fan Out effort drove 175,200 voter-registration actions and involved more than 120,000 participants; it reported that 22,500 people registered through the platform. The organization’s account does not establish how many of those actions changed turnout or affected the election result.

Raised campaign and voting-access funds
In the same retrospective, the coalition said it raised more than $236,000 for the Harris-Walz campaign in under 107 days. It also said it donated a further $25,595 with Shop Social Goods to voting-related organizations, including a program by the American Association of People with Disabilities to make voting more accessible. A separate interview reposted on the group’s site on November 7, 2024, reported $235,000 raised and 3,500 volunteers at that time. The two accounts are distinct snapshots and should not be treated as identical measurements. The retrospective and the November 7 interview repost give the respective figures.
Were Swifties for Kamala connected to Taylor Swift?
No. The coalition explicitly says it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorized by, sponsored by or officially connected to Swift or her business entities. It was organized by fans and operated as a separate political coalition.
Swift had not endorsed a candidate in the presidential race when the August 2024 kickoff was covered. She later endorsed the Harris-Walz ticket after the first presidential debate. That endorsement was her own action, separate from the coalition’s work. The organization’s about page says her call to action brought 400,000 visits to vote.gov and that more than 35,000 people registered through her 2023 calls to action; those figures are reported by the organization. They do not establish that Swift caused the coalition’s fundraising or voter-contact totals. Swifties for Kamala’s about page explains its non-affiliation and recounts the later endorsement.

Why friendship bracelets mattered
Bracelets made the campaign legible as a fan-led effort while also giving volunteers a simple activity to share at events. Swifties for Kamala said it distributed more than 55,000 bracelets across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and offered free bracelet-making stations at in-person events in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The coalition’s accounts offer a picture of the scale and mix of its organizing: digital contacts, calls, mail, registration efforts, volunteers, donations and fan-themed events. They are organization-reported activity totals. The available accounts do not independently measure the coalition’s effect on voter turnout, the election result or how many people it persuaded to support Harris.
