Inde Navarrette plays Sarah Cushing, Lana Lang’s daughter, in Superman & Lois. Navarrette has described building Sarah as an original character: she drew on Lana’s history while keeping room to shape Sarah’s own personality and relationships. The supplied sources establish Navarrette’s role and her approach to it, but do not measure her fame or establish a comparative “breakout star” ranking.
Who does Inde Navarrette play in Superman & Lois?
Navarrette portrays Sarah Cushing, whom The CW Press describes as Lana Lang’s rebellious daughter. DC’s series cast listing also names Navarrette. Sarah’s place in the story connects her to Lana’s family life as well as to the show’s younger characters.
How Navarrette approached Sarah as an original character
In a March 9, 2021 interview with ComicBook.com, Navarrette said she treated Sarah as an original character rather than trying to reproduce a fixed version. She looked into what the comics say about Lana and Lana’s relationship with Superman, watched Smallville, and spoke with showrunner Todd Helbing. That preparation helped her understand Sarah’s family background while leaving space for her own interpretation.
“It’s about who the character was, and then I got a lot of space to play the character.”

Sarah’s early story: family approval and a first crush
In that 2021 interview, Navarrette described Sarah as 14, starting high school, and wanting her family’s approval. That age and description reflect the character as Navarrette discussed her in the show’s early story; they are not details about the actor.
Navarrette also characterized Sarah and Jordan’s relationship as a first-crush connection. She said Sarah found understanding and acceptance in Jordan, making their bond meaningful beyond the excitement of a new romance.

How Sarah changes in Navarrette’s account
In a Summer 2023 interview with ComicBook.com, Navarrette reflected on Sarah’s difficulty letting things go and her growing awareness of how her actions affect other people, including her parents. She said she was happy with the direction Sarah takes by the end of that season. Her comments offer an actor’s perspective on Sarah’s development, rather than a claim that the character becomes uncomplicated or changes all at once.
Sarah’s role in the final season
DC’s description of season four identifies Sarah Cortez as a guest star who joins the fight against Luthor while facing decisions about her future. In the episode guide cited by Superman Homepage, Lana and Sarah join the fight in “A World Without,” listed with an original airdate of October 7, 2024. The guide lists the season finale’s original airdate as December 2, 2024; these are episode chronology dates, not a current streaming schedule.
What “breakout star” can—and cannot—mean here
“Breakout star” is the framing of this article’s title, not a verified ranking. The available sources document Navarrette’s casting, her interviews about Sarah, and the character’s story context. They do not provide audience figures, career totals, comparative performance data, or other evidence that would establish her fame relative to other cast members.
