What happened in Iscoe’s “fart circle” workshops?
Iscoe’s exercise began with a deliberately silly comparison: “Thoughts are like farts,” she told PerthNow in 2019. The idea was that people can feel pressure to hold in uncomfortable thoughts and secrets, and that expressing them may help. Participants could speak to the group or write something anonymously. PerthNow’s profile presents this as her workshop practice; it does not establish that the activity was clinical treatment or demonstrate its outcomes.
Iscoe also put the humor to literal use: PerthNow reported that she sold T-shirts on her website bearing the slogan “Let out a fart and feel better.” That is a report from 2019, not confirmation that the shirts remain available or are sold on Amazon.
Who is Dr Katherine Iscoe?
PerthNow described Iscoe as Canadian-born, a South Perth health scientist and a confidence expert, and reported that she held a doctorate in exercise physiology and biotechnology. The profile also recounted personal experiences including depression, an attempted suicide, eating disorders, body-image difficulties and bankruptcy. Those are biographical claims reported by PerthNow; they should not be read as independently verified medical history.

A later public account from the University of Western Australia gives a broader picture of her career. In an interview published August 8, 2022, UWA identified Iscoe as co-founder and CEO of Advanced Human Imaging Limited at that time. She described a non-linear path involving restaurant ownership, pastry work, bankruptcy, university study and real estate, and said her doctorate helped her apply education to health and wellness. Iscoe’s later public positioning centered on confidence, compassion and self-respect. In the UWA interview, she described compassion as an action-focused response to low self-worth, failure and shame. A speaker-bureau profile lists talks on self-respect, fear, burnout and leadership, while a 2024 podcast listing frames an episode around people-pleasing and self-respect.
