What does the Maul: Shadow Lord trailer reveal?
StarWars.com released the first teaser trailer and poster on January 22, 2026. The official trailer frames the story around Maul’s effort to regain criminal power and pursue revenge, while the Empire and Janix’s law enforcement threaten his plans. It also shows lightsaber clashes and Imperial Inquisitors, including The Crow, identified as the Eleventh Brother, and Marrok. Maul’s second aim is to draw Devon Izara toward an apprenticeship. Lucasfilm describes her as a disillusioned Jedi Padawan; the official material presents their meeting as a key part of the series’ premise.
When does the series take place, and what is Janix?
The story is set shortly after the Galactic Empire forms: after The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith, but years before Star Wars Rebels. Much of it takes place on Janix, a newly introduced planet described in Lucasfilm’s first announcement as untouched by the Empire. Read Lucasfilm’s series announcement.

That setting gives Maul room to attempt a criminal resurgence while bringing him into contact with both local law enforcement and Imperial forces. The premise connects the show to the aftermath of the Clone Wars without placing it in the later period covered by Rebels.
When did Maul: Shadow Lord premiere, and where can you watch it?

Who created the series?
Dave Filoni created Maul: Shadow Lord, and Filoni and Matt Michnovetz developed it. Brad Rau is supervising director. The executive producers are Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Michnovetz, Rau, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes; Alex Spotswood is co-executive producer.
Filoni has said he had considered how to continue Maul’s story after The Clone Wars for a long time. He also described the show’s animation as more aggressive, edgy, painterly, and expressive than the earlier style used for The Bad Batch and The Clone Wars. Those are his stated creative aims, rather than a claim about how every viewer will perceive the finished series.

Will there be a season 2?

Lucasfilm announced a Devon Izara Limited Edition Legacy Lightsaber on March 26, 2026. The announcement described a silver-and-black hilt, a weathered faux-leather grip, lightsaber sounds, a separately sold attachable blue blade, themed packaging, a lithograph, and a numbered insert. It set a worldwide limit of 3,000 units and an April 6 launch through DisneyStore.com, Walt Disney World Resort, and Disneyland Resort.
