Salvador Plasencia, the doctor who agreed in June 2025 to plead guilty in the ketamine case involving Matthew Perry, later entered the plea and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. The Justice Department says Plasencia distributed ketamine to Perry but did not supply the ketamine that caused Perry’s death. By May 27, 2026, the DEA reported that all five defendants in the case had been sentenced.
Who was the doctor, and what happened after the plea agreement?
The doctor was Salvador Plasencia. The Washington Post reported on June 16, 2025, that he had agreed to plead guilty to four counts of ketamine distribution (The Washington Post). The agreement was not the final case outcome: the Justice Department says Plasencia pleaded guilty on July 23, 2025, and was sentenced on December 3, 2025, to 30 months in federal prison (U.S. Department of Justice).
Plasencia surrendered his California medical license in September 2025, according to the DEA’s case update (Drug Enforcement Administration).
What did Plasencia do?
The Justice Department says Plasencia repeatedly sold ketamine to Perry despite knowing about Perry’s history of addiction. It also says Plasencia knew Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, was administering the drug without medical training or supervision. Plasencia himself administered ketamine to Perry. Prosecutors said the transfers were not for a legitimate medical purpose and fell below the proper standard of medical care (U.S. Department of Justice).

The distribution described at sentencing
From September 30 through October 12, 2023, Plasencia distributed 20 vials of ketamine, along with multiple tablets and syringes, to Perry and Iwamasa, according to the Justice Department (U.S. Department of Justice). The sentencing release says prosecutors argued that Plasencia charged $57,000 for those efforts, while citing an approximate going price of $15 per vial. Those figures come from prosecutors’ sentencing memorandum as described by the department; they are not an independent price survey.
Did Plasencia provide the ketamine that killed Perry?
No. The Justice Department expressly says Plasencia did not provide the ketamine that caused Perry’s death (U.S. Department of Justice). The DEA’s account identifies a different supply and administration chain: Jasveen Sangha supplied the fatal ketamine through Erik Fleming, and Iwamasa repeatedly injected Perry with it. On October 28, 2023, Iwamasa injected at least three shots of Sangha’s ketamine, according to the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration).

That distinction matters. Plasencia pleaded guilty to his own unlawful distribution conduct, but the government’s account does not attribute the fatal ketamine to him. The other defendants’ roles and outcomes are separate.

How the case moved from charges to sentences
- October 28, 2023: Perry died after a ketamine overdose, according to later official case releases.
- August 15, 2024: The Justice Department announced charges involving five defendants and described the alleged distribution network. At that stage, the indictment’s claims were allegations, and defendants were presumed innocent until proven guilty (U.S. Department of Justice).
- June 16, 2025: The Washington Post reported Plasencia’s agreement to plead guilty to four distribution counts (The Washington Post).
- July 23, 2025: Plasencia pleaded guilty, according to the Justice Department.
- December 3, 2025: Plasencia was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
- May 27, 2026: The DEA announced Iwamasa’s sentence and reported that all five defendants had been sentenced (Drug Enforcement Administration).
