Metropolis Fremantle auctioned 25 hand-sized pieces of retired carpet from its upstairs main room in a charity event that ran from November 20 to December 7, 2024. The auction is over; the sources reviewed do not report the winning bids or total raised. Metropolis said all proceeds would go to St Patrick’s Community Support Centre (St Pat’s).
What Metropolis auctioned
The lots were 25 hand-sized portions of old carpet from the venue’s former upstairs main room. Metropolis presented them as unusual keepsakes, joking that it had selected the “ripest selection” after “many nose plugs” and calling the pieces “questionable memorabilia.” Metropolis Fremantle’s auction announcement described the carpet as retired.
When the auction ran
Metropolis listed the auction period as November 20 through December 7, 2024. PerthNow reported that online bidding closed on December 7 at 5pm. This was a one-time 2024 event, not a current auction. PerthNow’s November 20, 2024 report gives the closing time.
Why the club held it and who benefited
The auction celebrated the completion of Metropolis’s upstairs renovation and relaunch. PerthNow reported that the venue had undergone major renovations earlier in 2024, including work to downstairs bars and seating and the upstairs retro room, which was reopening after two years.
