What was reported about Michael Madsen’s death?
The Associated Press reported that Madsen was found unresponsive at his Malibu home on the morning of July 3 and was pronounced dead. Citing Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Watch Commander Christopher Jauregui, AP said authorities believed the death was from natural causes and did not suspect foul play. These were reports at the time of his death, not a later medical-examiner determination.

- A gang of thieves carry out an armed robbery on a Diamond warehouse. The police are after them so quickly that they suspect they have a rat in their company. This film starts right after the robbery, with flashbacks to before the robbery, and to the planning of the crime. We are also introduced to the main characters in flashback mode. Plenty of fast action, and plenty of blood and gore.
Budd in the Kill Bill films
He later played Budd, the former assassin and brother of Bill, in Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Kill Bill: Vol. 2. AP described his part in the first film as smaller and his role in the sequel as a starring one.
What other films was Michael Madsen in?
Madsen’s career extended well beyond his work with Tarantino. AP reported that his screen career began in the early 1980s and included more than 300 credits, many in independent and low-budget films. That is AP’s reported count, not an independently audited total. His other film roles included:

- Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood
He was often cast in supporting roles as thugs, gangsters and shady law-enforcement figures, while Tarantino gave that screen persona room for more prominent characters.

He also published poetry collections, including Burning in Paradise and Expecting Rain, according to CBS News. At the time of Madsen’s death, his representatives said he was working on independent films—including Resurrection Road, Concessions and Cookbook for Southern Housewives—and that his poetry book Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems was being edited. The reports did not establish whether those projects were subsequently released.
His sister, actor Virginia Madsen, paid tribute to him in a statement reported by AP: “He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother—etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark.”
