Melissa McCarthy hosted Saturday Night Live for the sixth time on December 6, 2025, bringing her slapstick style to a holiday monologue and the sketch “UPS Delivery Driver.” The episode, listed as Season 51, Episode 7, featured Dijon as musical guest in his SNL debut in that role.
When McCarthy hosted—and who joined her

Where the physical comedy stood out
The holiday monologue
McCarthy’s monologue made the physical comedy part of the performance: she played a “mouth horn” over Christmas music, got covered in fake snow, and tussled with Marcello Hernández over a piano before cast members joined the closing song. Zach Vasquez of The Guardian wrote, “McCarthy is SNL’s favorite guest when it comes to physical comedy, with her monologue giving a taste of her slapstick talents.” Omar L. Gallaga’s Los Angeles Times recap also describes the monologue’s physical gags. The Guardian recap · Los Angeles Times recap
“UPS Delivery Driver”
The clearest showcase came in “UPS Delivery Driver.” McCarthy played Donna, a driver summoned by managers after security footage showed her mistreating packages and a customer’s property. When confronted, Donna denied it, pretended to faint, tried to roll herself out of the room in her chair, and chewed a complaint document. The Los Angeles Times called it the night’s best sketch and praised McCarthy’s escape attempts; it also noted Mikey Day breaking character while trying to remove paper from her mouth. The Guardian likewise singled out the sketch as a strong physical-comedy showcase.

“Free Sample”
In “Free Sample,” McCarthy played a lonely shopper who treats a grocery-store cheese sample as an extraordinary act of kindness, clings to the employee, and pushes other shoppers away. The Los Angeles Times counted it among three strong showcase sketches, while the Guardian found the sketch loose and noted its stroller gag. The differing reactions underline that McCarthy’s performance was a more consistent strength than every sketch around it.
What else was in the episode
Apple TV’s listing gives this sequence of sketches: “Pentagon Press Conference Cold Open,” “Free Sample,” “A Helping Hand,” “UPS Delivery Driver,” “Weekend Update,” “Truth or Dare,” “Sunday Supper,” “Cousin Song,” and “Homes for the Holidays with Christopher and Guillaume,” followed by goodnights and credits. The episode also included “A Helping Hand,” a dark holiday pre-tape about an overly generous neighbor; “Truth or Dare,” in which a mothers’ game turns sexual; “Sunday Supper,” centered on an overenthusiastic dinner host; the low-fi holiday music video “Cousin Song”; and the closing holiday-decorations piece. The Guardian considered several later sketches weaker, while the Los Angeles Times found some successful and others less suited to McCarthy.

How critics judged McCarthy’s return
The reviews were not unanimous. The Los Angeles Times emphasized the showcase opportunities, identifying “UPS Delivery Driver” as its best sketch of the night and praising McCarthy’s comic escapes. The Guardian found the episode middling overall and called it “not one of McCarthy’s stronger showings,” while still highlighting the monologue and UPS sketch. Read together, the assessments point to a strong fit between McCarthy’s physical performance and a few sketches, rather than an episode that landed evenly from start to finish.
