She has also pushed back on the idea that a woman’s weight should define her. This is an account of her publicly reported remarks—not a record of private medical information, and not weight-loss advice.
What McCarthy said about losing weight on an all-liquid diet
In coverage of a 2011 PEOPLE interview, McCarthy recalled trying a doctor-supervised all-liquid diet in 2003, after landing a role on Gilmore Girls. She said she lost 70 pounds in four months, but felt “starved and crazy half the time” and would not do it again. Women’s Health and The Daily Beast recount those remarks.
The figure and timeline are McCarthy’s retrospective account as reported in those articles, not an independently verified medical record. Her description of the experience is a clear reason not to treat it as a recommendation or a model to follow.
Why she later favored a slower, less stressful approach
In a 2018 interview with The Breakfast Club, McCarthy said she tried to de-stress, slow down, and stop constantly trying to be “on” something. She said that approach worked better than cycles of rigid rules about what to eat or drink. She also said that after having children she needed to be realistic about the pace and felt good. These remarks are reproduced by Women’s Health and Prevention.

Her comments describe what she felt worked for her; they do not establish a current diet, exercise routine, or a prescribed method for anyone else.
What she has said about weight fluctuation and body scrutiny
In a 2016 interview with Refinery29, McCarthy said she expected her weight to go up and down over her life: “I’ll be up, I’ll be down, probably for the rest of my life.” She also joked, “The thing is, if that is the most interesting thing about me, I need to go have a lavender farm in Minnesota and give this up.” Refinery29 and ABC News reported her objection to reducing discussion of women to their bodies.

How she described becoming more comfortable with herself
In a 2023 PEOPLE interview, McCarthy said, “Somewhere in my 30s, I was like ‘I’m okay with who I am.’” She credited her husband, Ben Falcone, with being “constantly loving and kind,” as well as funny. Her account places self-acceptance and support alongside any discussion of weight change. PEOPLE published the interview.
Did Melissa McCarthy say she used Ozempic?
No reviewed report documents McCarthy confirming that she used Ozempic or another weight-loss medication. In April 2024, Barbra Streisand asked McCarthy about Ozempic in an Instagram comment that was later deleted. McCarthy described the exchange as a compliment, saying, “The takeaway, Barbra Streisand knows I exist. She reached out to me and she thought I looked good.” That response did not confirm medication use. Women’s Health, Prevention, and Parade covered the exchange.

What is not established about her weight or health
There is no verified current weight or complete current regimen in the cited coverage. Photos, social-media comments, and renewed attention to her appearance cannot establish either. The figures sometimes repeated in later coverage should not be combined into a definitive career total: for example, Parade reported a 75-pound overall loss in 2024, but that total is not consistently corroborated by the interview material cited here. The useful distinction is between McCarthy’s attributed personal recollections and claims or guesses made about her from the outside.
