The model named in Vogue’s contemporaneous report was the Adidas Stan Smith. The sighting occurred on August 29, 2017, when Trump visited Corpus Christi to see people affected by Hurricane Harvey. Vogue’s account of the visit says she departed for Texas in snakeskin stilettos and had changed into the sneakers by the time she landed.
What was the story behind the shoe change?
The footwear drew attention because Trump traveled to a disaster-affected area in stilettos. Vogue’s headline characterized the later change as a response to online criticism, but the article does not establish Trump’s reason for changing shoes. The documented detail is the change between departure and arrival, not her motive.
What does this sighting tell us—and what does it not?
