Wendell Pierce said Meghan Markle and Prince Harry looked “very much in love” when he saw them in 2023. The Suits actor shared that impression in a PEOPLE interview at the 2024 Tony Awards; it was a recollection of a past encounter, not a new 2024 reunion or a statement from the couple.
What Wendell Pierce said about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
Speaking with PEOPLE at the Tony Awards in New York City on June 16, 2024, Pierce recalled seeing Markle the previous year. He said she had come into town for an award and that he had a chance to greet her and wish her, Prince Harry and their children well.
In a report about that interview, The Independent quoted Pierce saying: “They look very much in love and were very happy, so that’s the most important thing.” The Independent’s June 19, 2024 report describes his remark. Yahoo also reported the exchange, including the prior-year hello and his well-wishes, in a story published June 17, 2024: Yahoo’s report.
The wording matters: Pierce was describing how the couple appeared to him during a brief encounter. His comment is a personal impression, not independent confirmation of their private relationship or their feelings today.

When Pierce saw the couple—and when he spoke about it
The encounter Pierce recalled took place in 2023, though the reports do not give a more precise date. He spoke about it at the 2024 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 16; the coverage followed on June 17 and June 19. The 2024 interview was not a report of a fresh reunion.
Why Pierce is associated with Markle
Pierce played Robert Zane, the father of Markle’s character Rachel Zane, on the television drama Suits. Their on-screen connection is the context for coverage of his comment, but his assessment came from seeing Markle and Harry together the prior year.

Markle’s earlier public description of their relationship
Pierce’s recollection is separate from Markle’s own comments. In a 2017 Vanity Fair interview, she publicly described herself and Harry as being in love. Their relationship was also discussed in their 2017 post-engagement interview, transcribed by TIME, in which they described meeting on a blind date and deciding to meet again the next day. Those earlier accounts provide context, not additional evidence about what Pierce saw in 2023.
