Megan Thee Stallion’s Warner Music Group distribution agreement was announced on February 2, 2024. It was not a conventional label signing: she was to release music through her own company, Hot Girl Productions, while retaining ownership of her masters and publishing and creative control, according to Warner Music Group’s announcement. That deal is now historical: on August 14, 2026, Megan announced a distribution partnership with Interscope Records for upcoming releases.
What the 2024 Warner Music Group deal involved
Warner Music Group announced the agreement on February 2, 2024. The arrangement paired Megan’s independent operation with WMG’s distribution and global services. She would release through Hot Girl Productions, which WMG described as her independent music and entertainment entity.
WMG said it would provide distribution and resources including radio promotion and worldwide marketing, working with Warner Music and its international affiliates. Megan also had the option to bring artists signed to her imprint into WMG’s ecosystem.
WMG Recorded Music CEO Max Lousada called Megan “an artistic force and a mogul in the making – authentic and unapologetic in defining her own unique place in the cultural landscape.” The statement reflects WMG’s characterization of the agreement, not a disclosed description of its contract terms.

What ownership and creative control meant
In its announcement, WMG said Megan retained full ownership of her masters and publishing, as well as full creative control of her releases. Masters are the rights associated with particular sound recordings; publishing refers to rights in the underlying musical compositions. They are distinct rights, even when a song has both a recording and a composition.
The announcement states those ownership and control terms but does not provide a contract or catalog schedule. It therefore does not establish the detailed treatment of specific existing recordings or compositions. Nor does the word “distribution” by itself reveal the parties’ full rights or obligations.

Music Business Worldwide reported on August 17, 2026, that distribution had moved from WMG to Interscope, a Universal Music Group label. That is trade-press reporting on the transition; the two public announcements do not specify a transition date for catalog rights or whether WMG retains any separate rights in past releases. The Interscope announcement concerns upcoming releases and should not be read as resolving those catalog questions.
