Matthew Lawrence said a snowstorm changed his travel plans and led to a connecting flight through Atlanta, where he met Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. His first comments about children were later clarified: the childhood family plan he described was one he had discussed with his brother Joey, not a settled plan with Chilli. How Matthew Lawrence said he met Chilli
In an interview covered by Hollywood Life on March 4, 2023, Lawrence said a snowstorm disrupted his travel. The only flight he could get connected through Atlanta, where Chilli lives, and she was on that flight too. He recalled, “The only flight I could get was a connecting flight through Atlanta. [Chilli] lives in Atlanta. So, she was flying on that flight.”
Lawrence said they talked during the flight and agreed afterward to stay in touch: “So, really it was the flight, talking and then afterwards saying, ‘hey, you know what? Let’s keep in contact.’”
What Lawrence meant by “the game plan”
In the same March 2023 coverage, Lawrence was reported as saying that having children was “the game plan.” The phrasing prompted reports that he and Chilli were planning to start a family together. He later explained that the plan he had in mind was a childhood conversation with his brother Joey.

His clarification about Joey
In an interview reported by Us Weekly on March 15, 2023, Lawrence said, “[My brother] Joe and I were commiserating about this plan that we had to have children together … when we were growing up.” He explained that he had missed the chance to raise a family alongside Joey and was thinking about doing so again as his brother started a family. Lawrence added, “I didn’t mean to put any pressure on somebody I was dating or anything.”
That clarification changes the meaning of the earlier phrase: the plan he described was about the brothers’ shared idea, not evidence that Lawrence and Chilli had agreed to have a child.
What Chilli said about having children
Chilli addressed the possibility of having more children in comments reported by Us Weekly on March 18, 2023. She said, “You never know,” and did not rule it out, but added, “I gotta be married for sure — and I’m not married, yet!” Her answer expressed openness subject to marriage, not a commitment to have a child with Lawrence.
