Mark Zuckerberg has shared Fourth of July surfing videos in multiple years, but they show different activities and outfits—not one recurring clip. Reports place a 2021 electric-surfboard video at Lake Tahoe, describe a 2024 hydrofoil ride in a tuxedo, and report a 2025 wakesurfing video in an oversized patriotic inflatable suit.
Why does Mark Zuckerberg surf on the Fourth of July?
The available reports establish that Zuckerberg has posted surfing-related videos around Independence Day in 2021, 2024 and 2025. They do not establish why he chose the holiday, or that the videos are part of an annual tradition. The most grounded explanation is simply that these are holiday posts he has shared; any more specific motive would be speculation.

What kind of board was he riding?
The terminology depends on the year and report. The 2021 coverage calls the board an electric surfboard in one account and a hydrofoil in another; the 2024 Quartz report also calls the board a hydrofoil. Tech Times explains the foil as a wing beneath the water that raises the board above the surface, and attributes this description to Zuckerberg: “There’s a wing under the water that I’m riding that pushes the board into the air. It’s a lot of fun.” Tech Times’ 2021 report does not establish a precise product model. The reports do not show that one exact board was used in every video, and they do not establish a board endorsement.
What the videos do—and do not—show
The clips are distinctive holiday moments: a Lake Tahoe ride in 2021, a tuxedo-and-flag hydrofoil clip in 2024, and a patriotic inflatable suit during wakesurfing in 2025. Reporting also describes the 2021 video becoming a meme, but these accounts do not establish a shared location for all three clips, a reason for the holiday timing, or a continuous yearly practice.
