What did Catalina Mancera say?
Associated Press reported that Kneeland’s family, including Mancera, issued a statement through the Concussion and CTE Foundation after the Boston University CTE Center found stage one of four CTE in his brain tissue. The remarks were attributed to the family as a whole; AP did not identify Mancera as the individual speaker.

The family said: “While this diagnosis does not change the tragedy of his passing, it provides important context about some of the struggles he may have been facing. We share this information to help people understand what NFL and other high contact sport athletes might be struggling with.”
The statement continued: “Raising awareness is important to us. We continue to remember Marshawn with compassion for the person he was, rather than defining him by the final moments of his life. One Love.” AP’s report attributes both passages to the family.

What the CTE finding does—and does not—establish
According to AP, the Boston University CTE Center analyzed Kneeland’s brain tissue after his death and determined that he had stage one of four CTE. The family described the finding as context for some struggles he may have been facing and said they shared it to raise awareness about athletes in high-contact sports.
The family did not say that CTE caused Kneeland’s death or any specific action. Its statement explicitly said the diagnosis did not change the tragedy of his passing. The finding is a posthumous medical result, not an explanation of every circumstance surrounding his death.

What was known about Kneeland and Mancera
The Dallas Cowboys announced Kneeland’s death on November 6, 2025, identified him as 24, and described Mancera as his girlfriend. The team also noted that he had scored his first career touchdown days earlier, recovering a blocked punt against Arizona. The Cowboys’ announcement provides that team-reported context.
On November 12, 2025, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Mancera was pregnant with their child and that a memorial fund had been established to support her and the baby. That is a report from the team at that time; it does not establish a current update on the pregnancy or the fund. The Cowboys’ account of Schottenheimer’s comments records what he said.

Why reports about the family statement should not be conflated
The later family statement about CTE and remembrance is distinct from AP’s earlier reporting about emergency dispatch communications during the search after the November 2025 crash. The earlier account relayed information attributed to a girlfriend; it was not the same as the family’s later public statement. AP’s earlier report concerns the emergency response, not the later CTE remarks.
For the question of what Mancera said publicly after Kneeland’s death, the clearest supported answer is therefore the family’s collective statement: it acknowledged the CTE finding, described it as context rather than a changed account of the tragedy, and emphasized remembrance and awareness.
