The Los Angeles Times reported on August 3, 2026, that Ali had officially moved on. Its account described a troubled development, including director Bassam Tariq stepping away in 2022 and work stalling amid the 2023 writers’ strike. The paper also quoted Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige expressing regret: “I am feeling like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.” Feige’s statement reflects regret about getting the project underway with Ali; it does not announce a successor or explain Marvel’s next step: Los Angeles Times.

What is—and is not—known about Marvel’s next move
Ali’s stated departure is reported; a replacement casting and Marvel’s future plans are not established by these accounts.
