There is no comparable public ledger of Mariah Carey album revenue worldwide, so “highest-grossing” cannot be ranked reliably from the available figures. The clearest consistent comparison is U.S. album certifications: on the album-by-album table maintained by The Mariah Network, Daydream leads at 11× Platinum, followed by a tie between Music Box and Merry Christmas at 10× each. Those certifications are U.S. measures, not worldwide revenue totals or a direct count of every copy sold.
How this ranking is measured
The ranking below uses U.S. RIAA album certification levels reported in The Mariah Network’s album table. The RIAA’s Gold & Platinum database is the official place to look up certified records and their award details. The Mariah Network table is a secondary reference, so its rows should be checked against the live RIAA database when confirming a particular title.
RIAA certifications are not a worldwide sales ledger, and the cited sources do not establish comparable album-by-album global revenue. A separate discography reference also notes that there is no official system tracking worldwide album sales. Accordingly, this is a ranking by U.S. certification level—not by revenue, global units, or a uniform audited sales count.
The table includes studio albums, a compilation, and a holiday album where listed in the cited certification table. It does not combine label-reported worldwide copy milestones with the U.S. certification ranking.

What the worldwide sales figures do—and don’t—show
Some label announcements provide useful individual milestones, but not a comparable global ranking for every album. Sony Music’s 2025 30th-anniversary announcement for Daydream says the album has sold more than 27 million copies worldwide and reports its 11× Multi-Platinum RIAA certification. Universal Music Canada’s 2025 anniversary announcement for The Emancipation of Mimi reports more than 15 million worldwide copies.

These are label-reported milestones for two albums, not a complete set of like-for-like figures. They cannot establish a precise worldwide sales order or revenue ranking across Carey’s catalogue. The same Universal Music Canada announcement reports that “We Belong Together” is 7× Platinum; that is a single certification, not an album figure, so it does not belong in the album ranking.
Why Daydream tops the certification list
In the cited U.S. certification table, Daydream is the sole leader at 11× Platinum. Its worldwide milestone is also substantial: Sony Music reported more than 27 million copies in 2025. That global figure provides context for the album’s reach, but it does not change the basis of the ranking or turn certifications into gross revenue.
