Why did early reports say the cause was unknown?
Mandisa’s representative said on April 19, 2024, that the cause was not yet known. The later medical-examiner finding was reported in June, so the statements refer to different points in time rather than conflicting conclusions. The Associated Press reported that Mandisa Lynn Hundley, known professionally as Mandisa, was found at home in Tennessee on April 18, 2024, and died at 47.

Who was Mandisa?
Mandisa was an American contemporary Christian singer who became known after competing on American Idol. The Associated Press reported that she finished ninth in 2006 and later won a Grammy for her album Overcomer.
Her memoir, Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy, was published in 2022. The Associated Press described it as addressing her experiences with depression, weight-related challenges, the pandemic, and faith; it is personal context, not evidence for the medical examiner’s cause-of-death finding.
