The sighting described in this headline was reported on March 15, 2024—not a new update. PerthNow said Sam Kerr left a morning strength session at Chelsea’s Cobham training centre and was later seen in central London with her fiancée, fellow footballer Kristie Mewis. The legal case that framed the report later ended with a jury finding Kerr not guilty of racially aggravated harassment in February 2025.
What did the March 2024 report say?
PerthNow reported that Kerr had been seen leaving Chelsea’s Cobham training centre after a morning strength session and later spending time with Mewis in central London. The outlet described this as Kerr’s first sighting since news of the charge broke on March 5, 2024; that is PerthNow’s characterization of the period, not an independently established claim that no other sighting or public comment occurred. PerthNow said Kerr declined to comment when asked about the case and attributed the photos of the pair together to Mewis’s Instagram. Read PerthNow’s March 15, 2024 report.
What was the charge, and how did the case end?
The case concerned an incident at Twickenham in January 2023. When PerthNow published its account in March 2024, Kerr had pleaded not guilty to a charge of using insulting, threatening or abusive words that caused alarm or distress, and a trial was then expected in February 2025. That was the status at the time—not the eventual outcome.
In February 2025, a jury found Kerr not guilty of racially aggravated harassment. The Associated Press reported that Kerr accepted saying “stupid and white” to a police officer during a heated exchange, while denying that her words amounted to the offence. An acquittal is not a conviction. After the verdict, Kerr said in a statement, “Following today’s not guilty verdict, I can finally put this challenging period behind me.” Judge Peter Lodder was reported as saying, “I take the view her own behavior contributed significantly to the bringing of this allegation.” Associated Press coverage of the February 2025 verdict.

Who is Kristie Mewis?
Mewis is a fellow footballer and Kerr’s partner. PerthNow described her as Kerr’s fiancée in its March 2024 report and said the images of the couple together came from Mewis’s Instagram. The report’s description reflects their relationship as presented at that time.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What did the report say about Kerr’s injury?
PerthNow’s account included details that were historical even when published: it said Kerr had recently undergone surgery for a torn cruciate ligament, noted scars on her knee, and reported that she spent several hours with Chelsea’s medical team at Cobham before leaving. Those details should not be treated as a current medical update. ABC’s February 2025 coverage separately described Kerr as having been out of action for Chelsea and Australia for more than a year following a knee injury; that, too, is a report about the period covered, not a present-day assessment of her health or playing status.
