The Row is the luxury fashion label Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen founded in 2006. Its name nods to London’s Savile Row, and the brand says its purpose is to make exceptionally well-made essentials, with close attention to fabric, construction, proportion and finish. Today, retailer listings span clothing, bags, shoes and leather accessories, while fashion coverage documents ongoing seasonal collections and a deliberately limited retail footprint.
What is The Row?
The Row is a fashion house founded by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The founders’ public profile is unusually separate from the label’s design identity: a 2026 Marie Claire retrospective says they wanted an upscale venture in which they could design without being its faces.
The brand’s own account describes its aim as creating exceptionally well-made essentials rather than chasing trends. It says that approach carries through tailoring and structured handbags, with precision in construction, proportion and finish. Those are the label’s stated principles, not an independent assessment of every product.
Why is it called The Row?
The name refers to Savile Row, the London street renowned for bespoke tailoring. The Row says the reference reflects a commitment to tailoring and precision. The name therefore signals an aspiration toward careful making, rather than a direct claim that the brand is based on or produced on Savile Row.

How did the label begin?
The Row says Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen founded it in 2006. In Marie Claire’s 2026 account, the original ambition was to create a highly considered white T-shirt. The article also recounts the first collection’s launch in 2006.
Julie Gilhart, described by Marie Claire as a former Barneys New York executive, offered one explanation for the idea behind the label: “They were buying the iconic pieces of Nicolas Ghesquière and all the really cool fashion brands. When they decided to do their own collection, it was because they couldn’t find great pieces that support your wardrobe, that you wear over and over again and mix in with the special things you have.” Her comment frames the project as a search for enduring wardrobe pieces, rather than a celebrity merchandise line.

What does The Row sell?
Current listings from SSENSE show women’s ready-to-wear and leather accessories across categories including shirts, skirts, dresses, knitwear, turtlenecks, wool outerwear and tailored pieces. The retailer’s product listings also include bags, shoes, trousers, sweaters and accessories. Nordstrom groups the label under shoes, handbags and ready-to-wear at selected US locations.
The brand’s own page describes its handbag program as focused on intentional structure, refined proportions and quality materials. It also says the range has generated sellouts and waitlists; that is the brand’s promotional description, not independently audited sales data.

Why is The Row famous and expensive?
The available evidence points to several elements of its identity rather than one definitive cause of its reputation: the founders’ fashion-world visibility, a design proposition centered on refined essentials, and a high-end approach to materials and construction described by the label. The origin story also distinguishes the brand from celebrity labels that rely on founders appearing as the product’s public face.
The brand’s stated emphasis on fabric, construction, proportion and finish helps explain its luxury positioning, but the sources here do not establish a verified sales, revenue or market-share figure, nor do they provide a comprehensive price comparison. Where can shoppers find it?
SSENSE lists The Row for women, and Nordstrom identifies selected US locations carrying the brand. These listings establish retailer presence, not that every product is in stock online or at every store. Availability, shipping region, return terms and the seller for a particular item should be checked on the live product page.
Vogue Business reported in 2025 that The Row had five standalone stores globally and a limited number of wholesale accounts. That is a dated reported count, not an audited current total; store numbers and distribution can change.

Is The Row still releasing collections?
Vogue’s collection index lists Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear and Resort 2027, along with preceding seasons. That listing is evidence of continuing seasonal activity as of the page’s current crawl; the index can update over time.
Is The Row expanding into homeware or other categories?
Vogue Business discussed possible international retail growth and cited a consultant raising homeware or interiors as possibilities. Those comments are speculation, not confirmation of plans by The Row. The available sources do not establish that the brand is entering homeware, interiors or beauty.
