The two projects have different kinds of updates: Sony has outlined the premise and cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Marvel’s X-Men reboot has a reported cast and a May 2028 release target. Neither announcement establishes a full plot or a Spider-Man–X-Men crossover.
What is confirmed about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Sony describes Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the fourth film featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Its story takes place four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sony’s synopsis says Doctor Strange’s spell has caused the world to forget Peter Parker’s identity. Separated from MJ and Ned, Peter is focused on being Spider-Man. Sony Pictures’ official film FAQ and production details list Peter Parker, MJ, Ned, Frank Castle/The Punisher, Jean Grey, Bruce Banner/Hulk, and William “Bill” Metzger among the characters. The FAQ identifies Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, names Destin Daniel Cretton as director, and credits Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers as writers.
Release date depends on territory
The Walt Disney Company’s July 25, 2026 recap gives July 31, 2026, for the U.S. theatrical release. Disney UK’s July 27 recap lists July 29, 2026. Those are territory-specific dates, not a single worldwide date; Sony’s FAQ does not give a theatrical date in the information reviewed. Disney’s U.S. company recap and Disney UK’s recap list the respective dates.
Who is in the new X-Men cast, and when is the film coming out?
At D23, Marvel announced new cast members for its X-Men reboot. The Associated Press reports Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, and Maya Boyd as Storm. AP also lists previously announced performers: Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. The film has a May 2028 release target, with no specific day reported. The Associated Press report is the source for the roles and target month.

Feige’s comments about the project’s direction and director date to July 2025, so they are development context rather than a new schedule announcement. In a press interview reported by TheWrap on July 20, 2025, Feige described the comics as a place for stories about young people who feel different, other, or as though they do not belong. TheWrap’s report reproduces that framing.
