Jonathan Majors avoided jail when a Manhattan judge sentenced him on April 8, 2024. Justice Michael Gaffey imposed a conditional discharge and ordered him to complete a 52-week, in-person batterer’s intervention program in Los Angeles, continue mental-health therapy, and have no contact with Grace Jabbari. A violation of the order could result in up to a year in jail.
What sentence did Jonathan Majors receive?
Justice Michael Gaffey sentenced Majors to a conditional discharge, not prison or probation, on April 8, 2024, in Manhattan. He was not incarcerated at sentencing. The Associated Press reported that the court attached specific requirements to the discharge, including a yearlong intervention program, ongoing therapy, and a no-contact order with Jabbari. A breach could carry a year in jail. Associated Press sentencing report
Conditions imposed by the court
- Complete a 52-week, in-person batterer’s intervention program in Los Angeles.
- Continue mental-health therapy.
- Have no contact with Grace Jabbari.
What was Majors convicted of?
A Manhattan jury found Majors guilty in December 2023 of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment. It acquitted him on two other charges, so he was not convicted of every charge in the case. The two convictions were not felonies, according to Reuters’ account of the verdict and sentencing. Reuters via Investing.com
What happened in the case?
The criminal case stemmed from a March 2023 altercation in a hired vehicle. The parties gave competing accounts: Jabbari alleged that Majors attacked her, while Majors said he was trying to retrieve his phone and get away safely. Those descriptions are their respective accounts, not findings to treat as established facts. GMA News Online (Reuters)

What did the prosecutor say at sentencing?
Assistant District Attorney Kelli Galaway argued for intervention conditions, saying they would “make it all the more likely this defendant will reoffend without serious, in-person intervention through domestic violence programming.” That was the prosecutor’s argument for the sentence, not a finding by the judge. What did the verdict mean for his Marvel role?
After the December 2023 guilty verdict and before the April sentencing, Marvel Studios dropped Majors. He had been cast as Kang the Conqueror, a character the studio had envisioned as a major antagonist in its films and television shows. Associated Press
