No direct statement from MacCallum or Fox News confirming that explanation was located. Fox’s Martha MacCallum Interview page establishes her official Fox programming context but does not address the mark.
What does an Ash Wednesday cross mean?
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the Christian season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. In the United States, Catholics commonly receive ashes in the shape of a cross on the forehead. The practice varies by community and region; in some places, ashes are sprinkled on the crown of the head instead. In that article, Benedictine Father Eusebius Martis, a professor at the Pontifical Athenaeum of St. Anselm in Rome, describes the symbol: “The cross on the forehead is a sign of belonging, right?” His comment explains the religious meaning of the custom, not MacCallum’s specific mark.

Does the date confirm when the mark appeared?
No. Ash Wednesday fell on February 18 in 2026, according to the USCCB’s 2026 liturgical calendar and its Lent information. HOLR published its article on June 17, but that publication date does not establish when MacCallum was seen with the mark. The calendar date alone therefore cannot verify the identification.
