The episode also features Timothy challenging Tori about her relationship with Jack, while the group presses Ben about Ellie.
Why Sara and Tim were already in conflict
The tension begins before the other participants arrive. Sara and Tim come in silence and start discussing the dates Tim had arranged and Sara had cancelled three times. Sara says she wants to be heard and acknowledged; Tim says she has not taken responsibility for cancelling.
At the table, Sara says the first two cancellations happened during difficult weeks and that the third outing was not firmly arranged. Tim remembers asking her to keep the afternoon free and wear something nice. Their disagreement is about more than the cancellations: they also do not agree on whether the third plan had been clearly made.
How the dinner-party argument escalates
As they argue over what had been planned, Tim shouts, “YES I DID!” Sara tells him not to yell at her, swears at him, and leaves the table in tears. The Nine/9Now episode recap reports that Tim later regretted raising his voice and apologized. “I shouldn’t have raised my voice, I’m disappointed in myself,” he says in the recap. Sara remains upset, and Tim says he is not overly hopeful about their relationship.

Timothy challenges Tori about Jack
A separate confrontation centers on whether Tori believes Jack is attracted to her and whether their marriage is authentic. Timothy raises the questions with reference to comments Jack reportedly made at the grooms’ Intimacy Workshop. At dinner, Timothy also disputes Tori’s account of her intimacy with Jack.
Tori defends the relationship and tells him, “Timothy, you don’t even like your wife.” Lucinda, whose marriage becomes caught up in the dispute, later says she felt humiliated and wanted to hide in her shell. The exchange is another major dinner-party conflict, distinct from Sara and Tim’s argument.
