Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, were in the audience, but the claim that Zuckerberg looked upset and did not clap comes from an eyewitness account—not verified evidence of his feelings or reasons.
What did Billie Eilish say to billionaires?
Accepting the Music Innovator Award at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Eilish made a broad appeal to people with wealth to help those in need. The Associated Press quoted her saying: “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? And no hate, but give your money away, shorties.”
She also described the moment as one when people need empathy and help, saying the world was “really, really bad and really dark.” Her quoted remarks challenged billionaires as a group; she did not name Zuckerberg in the passage reported by AP.
Was Mark Zuckerberg at the speech?
Yes. The Associated Press reported that Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan were among the audience at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards on October 29, 2025. His presence in the room is distinct from the question of whether Eilish was addressing him personally: the quoted remarks did not single him out.

Futurism reported that an eyewitness told People Zuckerberg looked “visibly peeved” and did not clap after Eilish’s speech. That is a secondhand account of an observed reaction, not confirmation of what he felt or why he did not applaud. The reporting does not establish his motive, and the characterization should remain attributed to the eyewitness account.
