Early success in music and film
Faithfull first became widely known in the 1960s with “As Tears Go By,” written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. BMG also notes her early recording success and acting roles in films including I’ll Never Forget What’s’isname (1967), The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968) and Hamlet (1969).

Broken English and the later decades
After a period away from the spotlight, Faithfull returned with Broken English in 1979, an album BMG describes as a comeback and associates with her Grammy nomination. Her official biography documents a career spanning 1964–2025, including later recordings, collaborations, stage work and film roles. The Guardian’s 2025 obituary counts 22 solo albums; that is the newspaper’s count, rather than an official discography total.

Faithfull’s official biography identifies her 1994 autobiography, Faithfull, and the photo book Marianne Faithfull: A Life On Record. For documentary viewers, her official website’s 6 July 2026 notice said the film Broken English was available to rent on BFIPLAYER and to rent or buy on Apple TV in the UK. That information is specific to the UK and the date of the notice; availability may have changed.
