Margo Price’s album Hard Headed Woman marks a deliberate turn back toward songwriting and storytelling, while a new band brings a different energy and instrumentation to the music. The shift follows a period when her live shows leaned into psychedelic rock, extended jams and double drums.
What is Margo Price’s new album?
It is Hard Headed Woman. In an interview published by iHeart’s Broken Record on August 19, 2025, Price described the record as a return to the core of her songwriting: “I really just wanted to get back to the songwriting and the storytelling with this record.”

That aim is a contrast with the previous album’s exploration of psychedelic rock and the live approach Price described from that period. Her performances included double drums, Price playing drums herself and extended jams. For Hard Headed Woman, she wanted the songs and the stories they carry to take the foreground again.
Who is in Margo Price’s new band?
Price specifically names singer Logan Ledger, who sang on the record and joined her on tour, as part of the changed lineup. She also mentions a fiddle player joining her on the road. In the interview, she does not provide a complete band roster, so those details should not be taken as an exhaustive list of current members.

Price says she wanted to change the instrumentation, and describes the new band as a source of “fresh energy and just different ways of doing things.” The lineup’s importance, as she frames it, is not simply that it is new: its musicians make room for a different approach to performing the songs.

The change is best understood as a creative choice rather than a rejection of the previous period. Price had been exploring psychedelic rock and playing long, jam-oriented shows, with double drums and her own drumming among the elements she recalled. She then chose to bring the focus back to songwriting and storytelling, changing the instrumentation and inviting different musical contributions.

- Enjoy the music style of Country on CD.
That self-directed decision is the through line: Price is willing to change course when she wants to find another way into her sound. Calling that attitude defiant is an interpretation of her approach, not a phrase attributed to her in the interview.
