Margaret Josephs became emotional on The Real Housewives of New Jersey after her husband, Joe Benigno, received an elevated PSA result. The moment captured the fear of waiting for answers—not a cancer diagnosis. Bravo later reported that follow-up testing confirmed prostate cancer and that Joe chose active surveillance after consulting physicians. The latest specific update located, from December 2025, was Margaret’s account that he felt well and his cancer had not advanced.
What happened in the episode
In Bravo’s June 23, 2024 recap of Season 14, Episode 8, Margaret said routine bloodwork showed Joe had an elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) result. She described going with him to a urologist and waiting for further results. As the uncertainty sank in, she became emotional and said, “Nothing else matters.”
The scene was about the possibility of a serious diagnosis and the strain of waiting; the elevated PSA result itself was not presented as a diagnosis of cancer. Bravo’s recap of the episode documents that initial scare.
What follow-up testing found
In a September 9, 2024 report, Bravo said subsequent testing, including an MRI, confirmed prostate cancer. Margaret said Joe sought three opinions and chose active surveillance rather than surgery or radiation at that time. She described the tumor as unchanged and said he was being checked every few months.

Margaret also explained that Joe did not opt to have the tumor removed, saying, “A lot of people are like, ‘Just get it out,’ [but] the treatment’s much worse.” That is her account of the decision in Joe’s case, not a general comparison of cancer treatments. Bravo’s September 2024 report also quoted Margaret relaying that doctors said the tumor might not grow for 10 years. That remark concerns Joe’s individual case and should not be read as a general prediction about prostate cancer.
Joe Benigno’s latest reported health update
The latest specific update located was published by Bravo on December 1, 2025, following an interview with Margaret at BravoCon. She said, “Joe’s feeling great. His cancer has not changed. Not advanced at all.” She also said he continued to have regular checks.
