In an exclusive interview with People, syndicated by Yahoo, Maddie Font and Tae Kerr said Kerr wants to focus on her family while Font plans to keep making music. They left open the possibility of working together again, without announcing a reunion.
What happened to Maddie & Tae?
On December 8, 2025, Font and Kerr announced that they would go their separate ways professionally. The decision followed 15 years as Maddie & Tae. They described it as a change to their working partnership, not the end of their personal relationship.
“Even though we’re not gonna go on this journey as Maddie & Tae together, we’re still walking and doing life together outside of it,” Font told People.
Why are Maddie and Tae splitting up?
Their priorities had diverged. Kerr said her heart was at home and that she wanted to focus on her family. Font still wanted to make music and perform. Font recalled asking Kerr where her heart was and accepting her answer.

They said the decision was difficult and emotional. They wanted to keep the demands of their joint career from weighing on their friendship, and expected to remain close and raise their children alongside one another.
Why do they resist calling it a “breakup”?
For the pair, “breakup” suggested a rupture in a friendship they said remained intact. Their professional collaboration was changing; they did not describe themselves as falling out or ending their personal connection. The duo’s brief official announcement also points readers to the interview.
